I find many things to be over rated. In ancient muslim cultures the women wore a type fashion jewelry for a single purpose.
The jewlery would be the wealth of the family. If a man died in battle, the opposition was allowed to take money and other valuable items from the corpse. However a woman was left alone and left unmolested. It was against the war rules to kill muslim women.
